Built for QuickBooks

Made for the import screen, not just the download.

QuickBooks is strict about what it accepts. These details decide whether an import goes through.

  • <INTU.BID>

    Your bank, recognized

QuickBooks identifies the bank by its Intuit ID, not its name. Pick yours from Intuit’s own Web Connect directory of thousands of US and Canadian banks, and the file carries the ID QuickBooks checks.

  • <FITID>

    No duplicates on re-import

Every transaction gets an ID built from its own details, so importing an overlapping statement later won’t double your entries.

  • 1,000 rows

    Big statements, split to fit

QuickBooks Online rejects a QBO file over 1,000 transactions or about 350 KB. Bigger statements come out in parts that each import cleanly.

  • <ACCTTYPE>

    The right account type

Checking, savings, money market, line of credit and credit card statements each import as what they are, not all as “Checking”.

  • $(6.75)

    Messy amounts, right sign

Separate debit and credit columns, amounts in parentheses, currency signs, and card statements that list charges as positive all come out with the correct sign.

  • DD/MM

    Dates the right way round

Day-first and month-first statements are both read correctly, and QIF and IIF files are written in the order your QuickBooks expects.

  • CA

    Canadian editions

QuickBooks Canada checks banks against its own list. Choose the Canadian edition and the file is written for it.

  • !TRNS

    IIF with your account names

For QuickBooks Desktop journal entries, the IIF file posts to the account names you already use in your books.

Questions

Good to know.

Something else? Write to [email protected].

What is a QBO file?

A QBO file is QuickBooks Web Connect: the same kind of file your bank’s “Download for QuickBooks” button gives you. It’s built on OFX and carries your transactions along with your bank’s QuickBooks ID.

Why won’t QuickBooks just take my CSV?

QuickBooks Online only accepts CSVs in a fixed 3- or 4-column layout, and QuickBooks Desktop expects a Web Connect file for bank transactions. A QBO file works in every edition and gives each transaction an ID, so nothing gets imported twice.

My bank only gives me PDF statements. Will that work?

Yes. Upload the PDF and we read the transactions from your bank’s layout, scans and photos included. You check them before downloading.

QuickBooks says it can’t verify the financial institution. What now?

That error means the bank ID inside the file isn’t one QuickBooks recognizes. Convert again and pick your bank from the list, so the file carries an ID from Intuit’s own Web Connect directory.

Is there a limit on how many transactions I can import?

QuickBooks Online accepts up to 1,000 transactions (about 350 KB) per QBO file. Bigger statements are split into parts for you; import them one after the other.

Does it work with credit card statements?

Yes. Card statements import as credit card accounts, and charges and payments get the right sign even when the statement prints charges as positive numbers.

What happens to my file after I upload it?

It’s encrypted in transit and used only to make your download. It’s never used to train AI, and we never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Can I convert a QBO file to Excel?

Yes. Swap the direction in the converter, drop the .qbo file and download Excel or CSV. QBO files also convert to QFX, OFX, QIF and IIF.

Which QuickBooks versions does it work with?

QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop (Pro, Premier and Enterprise), QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, and the Canadian editions.

Is it free?

Yes, to start. Without an account you get 1 free page a day, and a free account gets 3. A CSV or Excel file counts as one page however long it is, and QBO, OFX, QFX, QIF and IIF files don’t use pages at all. For more, paid plans start at $15 a month.
